If you're experiencing issues with the Macadam app not displaying the correct number of steps, follow this troubleshooting guide to restore accurate step tracking.
Before You Start
Check your current pedometer source:
Open your Macadam app and navigate to the "Step Source" settings
Ensure that "Google Fit" is selected as your pedometer source (this is our recommended option for Android phones)
Quick test:
If "Google Fit" is already selected, return to the home screen using the back arrow in the top-left corner
Check if your step count is now displaying correctly
If yes, congratulations! You've resolved the issue 🎉
If not, continue with the steps below
Step 1: Verify Google Fit Setup
Open the Google Fit app and check that it's actively counting your steps. You should see a screen displaying your current step count (If yes, you can move to Step 2) :
If Google Fit isn't set up properly: You'll see a setup screen instead. Follow these steps:
Complete the setup process shown in the Google Fit app
Important: Click "Turn on" when you reach the "Track your activities" screen
Grant all necessary permissions for step tracking
Step 2: Reinstall the Macadam App
Why this helps: Reinstalling often resolves connectivity and data synchronization issues between apps.
Steps:
Uninstall the Macadam app from your phone
Download and install the latest version from Google Play Store (Where can I download Macadam app ?)
💡 Important: Write down the email address associated with your Macadam account before uninstalling, as you'll need it to log back in.
Step 3: Reconnect Your Accounts
Log back into Macadam:
Open the newly installed Macadam app
Sign in using your registered email address
Complete the onboarding process
Critical connection step:
Allow step counting permissions when prompted
Select the same Google Account used in Google Fit during the "Sync your steps with Google Fit" screen
This is the most important part of the process
Using a different account will prevent proper synchronization
Verify success:
Return to the main screen and check if your steps are now displaying correctly
Your step count should match what you see in Google Fit
