Health Connect is Android’s unified hub designed by Google to securely share health data across your apps. Google is gradually replacing Google Fit in favor of Health Connect, making it the primary gateway for activity tracking on Android. Interconnecting your step trackers is straightforward once configured properly!
How to Sync Health Connect with Google Fit
Even during this transition period, you can still link Google Fit to Health Connect to sync your historical activity data:
Prepare Your Apps: Make sure Google Fit and Health Connect are installed (on Android 14+, Health Connect is built directly into your phone’s Settings).
Access Google Fit Settings ⚙️: Open Google Fit, tap the Profile tab at the bottom right, then tap the Settings icon (gear) in the top right corner.
Enable the Link 🔗: Look for the option "Sync Fit with Health Connect" and toggle the switch to ON.
Grant Permissions 🔒: A Health Connect permission prompt will pop up. Select the data categories you wish to share (steps and activity) or choose "Allow all", then confirm. Make sure Macadam is enabled.
How to Link Macadam to Health Connect
To set Health Connect as your primary step counter and ensure accurate tracking:
Open Macadam Settings 📱: Launch Macadam, go to your Profile (bottom right icon), then tap the Settings gear in the top right corner.
Change Step Source 👣: Under the Step Counter / Data Source section, select Health Connect instead of the Macadam pedometer or Google Fit option
Confirm Permissions ✅: When the Health Connect overlay appears, enable read access for Steps and Physical Activity, then tap Allow.
Convert Your Steps 🎁: Open Macadam every evening before midnight to convert your synced steps into Coins!
